The British Nursing Index covers all British nursing and midwifery titles, plus other major English language journals.  A significant feature is the inclusion of articles relevant to nurses and midwives from medical journals and those for healthcare management and professions allied to medicine.

In 2001 the product was enhanced to form BNIPlus by including a new specially designed thesaurus.
