Nursing & Midwifery Index (NMI) is created.  This was a partnership between Salisbury Hospital, Poole Hospital and Bournemouth University.

1995
CD-ROM is released.

1996
The Royal College of Nursing, which had produced the Nursing Bibliography, formed a partnership with Bournemouth University, Poole and Salisbury NHS Trusts, which had produced the Nursing & Midwifery Index.  The two indexes were combined to form the British Nursing Index which was distributed by Optology in SilverPlatter format.

1996
Internet version is released.

2000
HCN takes over as publisher of the electronic versions of BNI.

2001
BNI Plus is released.  This provides access to the information by including a thesaurus to make searching easier.
