The British Nursing Index
(BNI) is a UK nursing database which covers British publications and other
English language titles from over 220 related journals.
BNI is compiled by a
partnership of the Libraries of Bournemouth
University, Poole Hospital NHS Trust,
Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust
and the Royal College of Nursing.
Indexing is undertaken
by Librarians working for the partner organisations,
who are all involved in the provision of library and information services
to the nurses and midwives for whom BNI is aimed. The normal schedule
sees index entries being created within one month of the journals being
received.
In 2001 the product
was enhanced by including a new specially designed thesaurus.
